Before coaching you have to take the following four steps.

1. Obtain Coaching Certification.  Before coaching any CYO team, all coaches (head & assistants) must attend the Coaches Orientation seminar in person prior to the start of the sport.  Click this link to see the schedule of orientation classes: http://www.region11cyo.org/2009-10CoachesOrientationSchedule.pdf. If the coach cannot personally attend Coaches Orientation prior to the beginning of the sport, he or she must take the Online Catholic Coaching Essentials before coaching at all AND attend the Coaches Orientation during the first year of coaching any CYO sports.  http://www.asep.com/asep_content/org/CYOPHIL.cfm

1. Attend the “Protecting God’s Children” Orientation.  You will not be able to coach without completing this step.  Registration for orientation through Virtus http://www.virtus.org/virtus/reg_list.cfm?theme=0

1. Obtain a PA State Criminal Background Check.  Submit a request for an online criminal background check.  https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp Coaches will be reimbursed through CYO for the costs of the background check.  Just send a receipt to Mike Casey, Treasurer mcasey@finsoftware.com.  Once the PA State Criminal Background Check is completed you will receive a certificate.  Retain a copy for yourself.  Take the original to the Rectory.

1. Obtain a Child Abuse Clearance.  Complete the online form and submit the form to the rectory for processing along with a copy of the PA State Criminal Background Check Certificate.
