Welcome to the Saint David’s Tritons!

We are so glad that you decided to join the team! We are looking forward to a great season. Here are some of the team rules that you will need to follow in order to have a great season:

1. Pool Safety:

No running on the pool deck

No pushing or shoving at any time

No bullying or teasing

Children 8 and under will not enter the pool without a coach’s instructions

Always listen to the coach’s instruction

No food on deck. Bottled water is allowed

No parents on deck unless they are volunteers

No children allowed on deck who are not swimmers

2. Practice schedule and procedures:

Practices take place at Abington High School Pool. The practice schedule is as follows:

Monday: 6- 7:30pm (8 and under 6- 6:45pm)

Wednesday: 7-8:30pm (8 and under 7-7:45pm)

We understand that the only way to improve as a swimmer is to attend

regular practices.  However, schoolwork should always be a top priority; therefore, our practices are not mandatory.

Be on time for practice and meets.  Always sign in with the lifeguard as soon as you arrive on the pool deck.

Each child must be able to finish 1 lap (25 yards) unassisted.

Swimmers must wear racing suits to practice and bring goggles. Girls must wear a swim cap or tie back long hair. Swimmers will be provided a gold swim cap.

3. Locker room procedures:

No horsing around in the locker room

No belongings will be left in locker room. All swim bags will be left on the pool deck during practices and meets.

Use buddy system to use rest rooms during practices and meets

Parents with children 8 and under are responsible for their children in the locker room. To ensure safety, there MUST be 2 parents present in the locker rooms when children are using them.

4. Meet Procedures:

If a swimmer cannot make a swim meet, parents must contact JR Simonds the Wednesday before the scheduled meet. Please email at stdavidtritons@comcast.net AND call JR at 267-275-7777. If a swimmer gets sick and cannot make the meet, please contact JR ASAP.

Please arrive at each meet at least 20 minutes before the scheduled start time.  As soon as you arrive at a meet, be sure to check in with your coach to: (i) let them know you are here, and; (ii) make sure you know which events you will be swimming.  Remember, we will always have last minute changes.

Swimmers are not permitted to wear any jewelry including hair bands around the wrists.  If they do they will be disqualified.

In order to qualify to swim in the Championships, a child must have swum in at least 4 meets throughout the year (CYO rule).

All swimmers are to remain on the pool deck with the team for the entire meet.  We want to encourage cheering and emotional support for all swimmers and to finish the meet with a team cheer.  If you cannot stay, please inform your coach.

Swimmers should not sit in the stands with their parents.  We frequently have changes in the line-up for many different reasons.  If we cannot find a swimmer, we cannot add them to the line-up and this limits our flexibility.

Swimmers and Parents are not to address any official.  If a swimmer or parent has a question regarding an official’s call you should speak directly with one of the coaches.

Parents should abide by the Fair Play Rules.

Any Parent that is not on a Special Volunteer Committee will be assigned Locker Room/Pool Monitor Responsibilities.  These are very important safety requirements to protect our children.  It is essential to attend your assigned location on the date assigned.  If you cannot attend, it is your responsibility to find a substitute.  DO NOT CALL THE COACHES.  If a parent is missing, your child will not swim in the next meet.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  The assignment list will be posted on the website.

5. Family Folders

Family folders will be out the first week of practice. Folders for new families will be added after registration. Parents, please remember it is your family’s responsibility to look in the folder for additional or updated information. Folders will be in the stands at all practices.

6. Parent Participation:

Parents are required to work a minimum of two meets during the season. Please be aware that you are not limited to just two meets and may be requested to help more than required.  Your help is needed and appreciated. The first week of October a binder will be out at every practice for volunteers to signup. Please fill it in as early as possible. It takes a minimum of 20 volunteers to run a successful and timely swim meet.
